Program overview

The program was planned and required permission was taken for conducting Adolescent Health Education Program and the orphanage visit at Abhayadhama Human Development Centre. Bro. Chacko, Director of Abhayadhama Human Development centre took BSc Nursing students around the orphanage. The BSc Nursing students planned Health Education, activities and handed over gifts for the boys in the centre.

Orphanage Visit:

Bro. Chacko, took the students and faculties around the center, children dormitory, study area, kitchen, vocational training areas such as carpentry section, welding section, a unit to teach automobile repair and maintenance section were present in the campus to help children under go vocational training. The managing staff, teaching faculties for various vocational training, cook and helping staff were present during the time of the visit. The director of the center explained the inception of the center, admission process, formalities, government regulations and regular routine of the center.

Activities Carried out:

Nursing students conducted a health education program starting with few carol singing followed by health education program on balanced diet, cultivating good habits, good study habits, learning technique was explained. Exercises were demonstrated by the nursing students to the inmates of the center. Another group of students conducted games. The students had arranged gifts to the inmates of the center.

Outcome and Reflection:

The Adolescent Health Education Program provided the opportunity for the BSc Nursing students to give health education on needed topics and that help to promote health. Orphanage visit helped them gain understating about the various facilities and routine of the center.

Conclusion:
Community health nursing faculties and students carried out this program which helped the inmates to gain the knowledge to promote health, various activities, games and gifts made them happy.
