INTRODUCTION
Vydehi institute of nursing science and research centre organized world breast feeding week with a view to create awareness among Mothers practice, Emphasize & educate exclusive breast feeding.
Every year, countries around the world observe World Breastfeeding Week for a good reason: breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to provide children everywhere with the best start to life. This year, the World Health Assembly embraced the annual celebration of World Breastfeeding Week by Member States as a valuable way to advocate for the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding everywhere.
The theme of this year‘s World Breastfeeding Week is ―Step Up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support
Establishing exclusive breastfeeding – feeding infants nothing but breast milk for the first six months of life — helps young children grow, preventing under nutrition, promoting brain development, and reducing the risk that children will become overweight.
Breastfeeding is also a newborn‘s first vaccine, providing vital antibodies and an immunity boost.
OBJECTIVES
> To make aware the peer group to support mothers in order to establish and carry on the breastfeeding.
> To initiate the breastfeeding supporters to be trained to provide support to mothers and babies in more effective ways.
> To Educate Students of vydehi institute of nursing science and research centre about importance of Health education and assessing Mothers with breastfeeding.

PROGRAMME DETAILS
DAY-1: (01/08/2022)
To enhance the knowledge of the students, poster competition was organized in the college (vydehi institute of nursing science and research centre). The main emphasize of the competition was on the theme of world breast feeding week, advantage of breast feeding, technique of breast feeding, problems of breast feeding. In competition total 10 students has participated, among which 2 students has won the prizes.
DAY-2: (02/08/2022)
To promote awareness among the mothers, role play was enacted in pediatric ward, vydehi hospital. The role play was carried out in hindi by the 3rd year b.sc nursing students, 2nd Year GNM students and PBBSC nursing students of vydehi institute of nursing. Total 18 mothers have participated in the programme. Students from the various batches have enacted scenarios related to the advantages and proper techniques of breastfeeding.
DAY-3: (03/08/2022)
An exhibition on world breast feeding week was organized in the vydehi hospital. In the exhibition 5 models were presented by 5 groups of 3rd year b.sc (N), 2ND year GNM (N) and 1st year PBBSC (N). Models are prepared based on the techniques, advantages, components, and road map of breastfeeding.
To promote awareness among the mothers, role play was enacted in primary school, Bevinamare colony, community area. The role play was carried out in kannada by the 3rd year b.sc nursing students, 2nd Year GNM students and PBBSC nursing students of vydehi institute of nursing. Total 3 mothers have participated in the programme. Students from the various batches have enacted scenarios related to the advantages and proper techniques of breastfeeding.
DAY-5: (05/08/2022)
To assess the knowledge of the student quiz competition on breastfeeding was conducted among students of 3rd year B.SC, 2nd year GNM, and 1st year PBBSC students. Students were arranged in total 14 groups. Each group had 10 nos of students. Total 5 different objective type questions related to breastfeeding were asked to the students. Among 14 groups 2 groups has performed well and secured prizes.
DAY-6: (06/08/2022)
The valedictory programme was conducted on the last day to distribute the prizes and certificates to the students. The programme was innaugrated by prof L.E Madhumati and Dr. B.M Shivalingappa, Dr. Susheela. Deligates, Dr. B.M Shivalingappa (HOD, paediatric dept. VIMS & RC) Dr. Susheela (professor, VIMS & RC) prof L.E Madhumati( principal, VINS & Rc) has addressed the gathering with the valuable information related to breastfeeding. The overall report of breastfeeding week was presented by Prof. Rani Paul T, HOD of Child Health Nursing. At the end of the programme prizes and certificates were distributed to the students.
