THEME:“UNLOCKING POTENTIAL:MASTERING THE ARTS OF SOFT SKILL”

Beneficiaries : – PG & UG Nursing Faculty,Staff nurses, PG & UG Nursing students. A total of 439 participants enrolled offline from various colleges across karnataka and 230 participants registered online from New Delhi ,Chattisgarh ,West bengal, Karnataka, South Korea .A total numbers of attendees both online and offline was 669
About Conference:
- Nurses play a crucial role in healthcare teams, collaborating with other nurses, physicians, and staff members. Their analytical competence and ability to connect with patients directly impact health outcomes. In order to work efficiently in the past fast- paced medical environment, the nurses should possess several skills. One of the important among is soft skill. Developing these skills help nurses to build strong relationship with the patient and their families. In the view of above, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences curriculum also insist the importance of completing the soft skill by 3rd semester of B.Sc. nursing as an elective module. So this conference aim to develop soft skills which are required for the efficient patient care and professional work environment.
OBJECTIVES :
At the end of the conference ,the participants will be able to ;
- Cultivate professionalism and enhance patient care by adhering to proper personal etiquette contributing to a respectful and efficient healthcare environment.
- Optimize nurses’ efficiency by managing time effectively and thereby accomplishing professional tasks.
- Enhance professional and personal satisfaction, productivity and overall quality of life by balancing work commitments with personal commitments
- Equip nursing professionals with essential skills for effective collaboration and patient-centered care
- Enhance self-confidence, leadership skills, and decision-making abilities and there by empowering nurses to navigate complex challenges and lead effectively in the dynamic healthcare landscape.

PROCEEDINGS :
The one day conference on “UNLOCKING POTENTIAL:MASTERING THE ARTS OF SOFT SKILL” was held at Vydehi institute of nursing Sciences and Research centre ,Bangalore on 30th may,2024 started with prayer song by BSc Nursing III year
The inauguration ceremony commenced with blessings from the Almighty at 11am, followed by lamp lighting. Dr Jasmine Joseph principal VINS AND RC given welcome address and inspiring addresses from our esteemed dignitaries: Major Ushashree Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of Vydehi Group of Institutions; Mrs. Latha Nonis, Chief Nursing Officer at Fortis Hospital; and Dr. Jasmine Joseph, Principal of VINS and RC. The dignitaries were felicitated with saplings Their insightful words set the perfect stage for our exploration into the art of soft skills.
Dr. Jamine Joseph addressed the audience that today’s health care environment is very complex and greatly different from the past. Over the period there is enormous explosion in technologies, methods of treatment, drugs and opportunities to disseminate knowledge, which places the health care professionals including nurses in a challenging position to keep themselves abreast with the new knowledge. The discovery of new knowledge provides the foundation for high-quality evidence based practice.
She also mentioned what are the hard skills and soft skills and why soft skills are beneficial in Nursing
SESSION 1 ; TIME MANAGEMENT –
Session I was led by Dr. R. Hemalatha, Principal of Universal College of Nursing, conducted an insightful session on time management and organization. madam highlighted the importance of these skills in maximizing productivity and achieving success.
SESSION 2 ; PERSONAL ETIQUETTE
The first session was led by Mrs.Shanthi rani, Chief Nursing Officer at Aster RV Hospital, Bangalore. madam discussed the topic of personal etiquette, emphasizing its foundational role in soft skills. Her engaging presentation on proper behavior, manners, and social conventions provided valuable insights for elegant and respectful social interactions.
SESSION 3 ; WORK LIFE BALANCE –
Session III was led by Mrs.Joyce Meshach Nursing Head at Vydehi Hospital, delivered an engaging session on work-life balance. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a delicate balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being.
SCIENTIFIC SESSION ;
Concurrently, scientific sessions were guided by Mrs. Gowri S., Nursing Educator at Fortis Hospital, and Mrs. Akshatha R.S., Assistant Professor at Vydehi College of Pharmacy. …11….. Participants presented their scientific papers, and …05…….. members participated in the poster presentation. Awards given for the best poster and the best scientific paper.
PANEL DISCUSSION ;
After lunch break very interesting session in the form of a panel discussion.The panel discussion focused on teamwork and collaboration was expertly moderated by Mrs. Latha Nonis, Chief Nursing Officer at Fortis Hospital. The panelists included
1.Col. S. G. Jyothi, Deputy Principal Matron at Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore;
2.Dr. Prof. Jasmine Joseph, Principal at VINS & RC;
- Dr. Bharath sankar ,Asst. Professor, Department of Oncology at VIMS & RC; and
4.Mrs. Shiny Jacques, Nursing Director at VIMS & RC.
The discussion covered various aspects of teamwork, assertive communication, mentoring, challenges in collaboration, and peer networking. Each panelist brought unique perspectives, enriching the conversation with their expertise.
SESSION 4 ; CONFIDENCE BUILDING –
Session IV was led by Mr. Karthiksaragur, a researcher and film director, led a session on confidence building.He has discussed many inspirational stories about how from lack in confidence to become a self confident person .His impactful discourse on unlocking inner strength and cultivating resilience resonated deeply with the students.
POST TEST & VALEDICTORY FUNCTION
The day concluded with a post-test and feedback session, providing valuable insights for future improvements. Pre-test scores of our active participants were 54%……recorded, and the post-test scores are…85%…post test score demonstrated significant improvement, serving as strong evidence of the conference’s success. CERTIFICATE DISTRIBUTION :
After post test certificates was distributed by Principal mam Dr. Jasmine Joseph and the chief guests to all the nursing students and staffs who has joined the conference
