ABOUT CONFERENCE
Human values are the core values that make up one’s personality and define how he acts in life. These values are critical in nursing practice too because they provide a foundation for ethical decision making, ensure patient-centred care and guide professional behaviour. It is evident that promotion and preservation of human values are not just philosophical ideals, but practical necessities in an increasingly interconnected world. In the view of above, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences curriculum also insist the importance of completing the human values as an elective model by 4th semester BSc nursing. So, this conference on Human Values in 21st Century: Compassion In Action, reaffirmed the universal importance of compassion, respect, integrity and empathy in shaping both individual lives and societal progress.

PROCEEDINGS
Registration commenced at 8:15 AM, followed by Pretest link was shared with the participants. A total of 393 participants enrolled from various colleges across India, from Mumbai, Mysore, Kolar, Tumkuru, Bengaluru & Coimbatore. The number of participants registered for online paper presentation were 17 and the offline paper presentation were 13.
SESSION I: NURSING NOBILITY: EMBODYING PROFESSIONAL VALUES.
The 1st Session started at 9:00 AM and is led by Lt. Col. Reena Menon (Retd), Former Principal, St John’s College of Nursing, Training Coordinator ANEI, provided an active and insightful session on Nursing Nobility: Embodying Professional values. She beautifully explained the importance of personal and professional values and how to internalize professional values in day today practice.
The Inauguration ceremony commenced at 9:50AM with the invocation song by the college choir and the traditional lighting of the lamp. This was succeeded by a welcome speech from Dr. Jasmine Joseph, Principal of VINS and RC, and thereafter an illuminated keynote address was presented by the respected COO, Vydehi group of institutions, Major Ushasree Kumar, her enlightening words set a perfect stage for our exploration into learning human values.
SESSION II : AVOIDING BLINDSPOTS WITH CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE.
The second session started at 10:15 AM which is guided by Dr. Lucy Koneri DNP, MSN, RN, Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, Texas, US delivered an inspiring session on Avoiding Blind-spots with Cultural Intelligence. She gracefully unravelled four dimensions of cultural intelligence & emphasized its significance in healthcare.
PANEL DISCUSSION
After tea break at 11:00 AM, 3rd session: panel discussion started at 11:40 AM which was very interesting & enriching. The panel discussion focused on THREADS OF HUMANITY: WEAVING VALUES IN FAMILY AND SOCIETY was expertly moderated by Mrs. Latha Nonis, Chief Nursing Officer at Fortis Hospital. The panellists included,
- Mrs. Salamma Raju Advocate; Human values in family life.
2.Dr. Prof. Jasmine Joseph, Principal at VINS & RC; foundations of human values.
- Dr. Marie Martinho Nympha MSW, VIMS & RC. Human values in social relationships.
The discussion covered various aspects of Human Values in Social Relationships and Human Values in Family Life. Each panellist brought unique perspectives, enriching the conversation with their expertise.
SCIENTIFIC PAPER PRESENTATION
In parallel with panel discussion scientific paper presentation took place in lecture hall 3. Total 30 candidates were participated in the session, 17 on online and 13 offline. The session was evaluated by Dr. Reena Ravi S, Principal Sree Sree Institute of nursing sciences and research centre, Prof. Pricilla Nirmal G Principal MVJ college of nursing and Dr. Kavita Reddy, Principal, VSH College of Nursing.
SESSION IV: BEYOND MEDICINE: ETHICAL PULSE OF HEALTHCARE
After lunchbreak at 1:30PM, a dynamic session has led by, Dr. Jagadeesh N, HOD, Forensic Medicine, VIMS & RC. He delivered a remarkable session on Beyond Medicine: Ethical Pulse Of Healthcare. Drawing from his extensive experience, he emphasized the significance of ethics and morality in healthcare through different scenarios.
POST TEST & VALEDECTORY FUNCTION
After the 4th session participants were asked to fill the post test then the delegates have given the opportunity to express their valuable feedback. Representatives of different colleges shared their valuable feedback. Dr. A.R. Manjjuri, Principal, Sathya Sai Institute of Higher medical sciences & research centre who came as the KNC observer, also shared her constructive feedback of today’s event.
The Pre-test mean percentage scores of our active participants were 74 and the post-test mean percentage score was 88, post test score demonstrated significant improvement, serving as strong evidence of the conference’s success. This achievement reflects the proficiency of our resource persons and the active engagement of all participants.
CERTIFICATE DISTRIBUTION & REPORT PRESENTATION
After post-test certificates were distributed by Principal ma’am Dr, Jasmine Joseph and other chief guest to all the nursing students and staffs who participated in the conference. Conference report was presented by Mrs. Jency M J, Associate professor, VINS & RC.
VOTE OF THANKS
At the end, vote of thanks given by Prof. Rani Paul, Vice Principal. She appreciated every individual who contributed to make this programme a resounding success, from the dedicated speakers, moderators and to the enthusiastic participants. The programme ended with National anthem.
