School health programme was scheduled on April 13th. Program got started with a formal inauguration.
Inauguration The program began with a formal inauguration where the event was officially started in the presence of school authorities, teachers, and our faculties. Orientation
This was followed by an orientation of the camp by Veena Madam, Professor of Community Health Nursing, where she introduced the objectives and flow of the program to the students. ‘
Role Play on Hygiene Next, we presented a role play on personal hygiene which highlighted the importance of practices like hand washing, oral hygiene, and cleanliness in a simple and engaging manner.
Ice-break Session To create a lively atmosphere, an ice-breaking session was conducted, which included fun interactions and action songs. This helped the children feel comfortable and actively participate.
Distribution of Gifts A small gift of stationery items was distributed to the children as a token of appreciation for their participation and enthusiasm during the activities. Parallel Sessions Conducted The program then moved into parallel sessions which included:
Health Check-up Session-A comprehensive health check-up was carried out to assess the overall health status of the students. Firstly, we conducted vital signs assessment which included measuring temperature, pulse, respiration, and BP where necessary, along with a head-to-toe general physical examination. This helped us to identify any immediate health concerns. A pediatrician was involved in examining the children for general health conditions, growth and development, and to identify any medical issues requiring further attention. We also conducted dental check-up where the students were assessed for common dental problems.
At the end of the session, a survey was compiled based on the findings. A total of 75 students participated in the health check-up: 14 students from 1st standard 24 students from 2nd standard 21 students from 3rd standard 18 students from 4th standard Out of which: 32 students were found to have dental problems like dental caries, cavities, misaligned teeth, and tooth decay 3 students had other health problems like fever, cough, and cold 1 student had a skin problem. 1 student was identified with Down syndrome. Appropriate health education and referrals were given to ensure proper follow-up and management.
Health Education Session We provided health education on balanced diet, nutrition, and personal hygiene, teaching students about the importance of daily cleanliness, proper bathing, nail care, and hand washing techniques. To make the session more engaging, we also presented an awareness video created by 5th semester students, which helped the students better understand and remember the information.
Play Therapy Session To make the program more lively, enjoyable, and interactive for the students, we conducted various games and fun activities. The children participated with great enthusiasm and energy. We conducted the ‘Nadia–Dhadda’ game, which helped in improving children’s muscle strength, coordination, and attention span. The activity kept them active and alert. Next, we organized “walking with balloon balance”, where children had to walk while balancing a balloon. This activity helped to improve their concentration, balance, and coordination, We also conducted “building pyramids using glasses.. This activity enhanced the children’s focus, patience, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving skills. Overall, these games were not only entertaining but also therapeutic, contributing to the physical fitness, mental alertness, and social interaction of the children.
