World Thalassemia Day

As the increasing number of morbidity rates affected by thalassemia to acknowledge the importance of treatment and to create awareness among the population, every year may 8th is celebrated as World Thalassemia Day. On behalf of it VINS & RC celebrated thalassemia day in association with VIMS & RC from the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health Nursing.

The event was organized by the department of Child Health Nursing, Students of 3rd year BSc Nursing and 2nd GNM. The programme was graced by esteemed personalities, patients and parents. The programme commenced at 10:30am by a warm greeting by the emcee Mr. Daniël student of 3rd BSc Nursing. The gathering and the dignitaries were welcomed by the HOD of Child Health Nursing and Vice principal VINS & RC Mrs. Rani Paul.    

The dignitaries namely Dr. Harvinder Kaur (Professor VIMS & RC) Dr. Dhinakaran (HOD of Pediatric VIMS & RC) Dr. Prof. Jasmine Joseph (Principal VINS & RC) Mrs. Joyce Mishac (Nursing Director VIMS & RC), Mrs. Rani Paul (Vice Principal and HOD of Child Health Nursing VINS & RC) made the event lively through their instigating insights.

The event was started by unveiling the theme of the year i.e., “Empowering live, Embracing Progress: Equitable and Accessible Thalassemia Treatment for All” followed by speech of Dr. Anamika (Post Graduate VIMS & RC) through a short brief about thalassemia. Subsequently Dr. Haravinder Kaur had enlightened the gathering about the thalassemia causes, preventive measures and treatment modalities of thalassemia.

The awareness was created by the students of VINS & RC through a role play related to the world thalassemia day and theme of the year. Which projected a detailed view about the causes treatment modalities and availability clearing various notions among the crowd. Following the skit the gathering was addressed by the Principal of VINS & RC Dr. Prof. Jasmine Joseph acquainting the group about the importance of the treatment and cure. Subsequently Dr. Dhinakaran (HOD of Pediatric VIMS & RC) interacted with the gathering and provided them with detailed view about thalassemia.

The event was successful with the participation of the parents, post graduate students of VIMS & RC, Faculty and students of VINS & RC which was ended by the Vote of Thanks.
